Providing a timeless home where a family can comfortably gather, relax and grow
Once cramped, dark and dated, our client's transformed inner-city home is flooded with fresh air, natural light, and an undeniable indoor-outdoor feel. The two-level terrace radiates an open, inviting feeling and boasts masses of functionality and storage - a perfect fit for the evolving needs of our clients’ young family.
Reconfiguring the tight ground floor layout was key to the success of this renovation. We opened the kitchen to the dining and living by removing an interior wall, and we enclosed the internal stairwell to allow more space for custom cabinetry. The cabinet doors hide a linen press, a bar and a European laundry.
In the living space, a wall of joinery neatly houses the media equipment and a desk nook. The natural stone feature behind the open shelving repeats in the kitchen, which we extended into the former laundry. The revised kitchen layout is practical and open to the courtyard via servery windows. Integrated appliances and the pared-back palette of cool grey and fresh white give the galley space an uncluttered, calm look.
Soft grey crazy paving continues across the interior to the alfresco area, creating a seamless inside-outside transition. Daylight streams through the custom-designed black steel doors with full-height glazing. Folded back, they further the connection to the courtyard and increase the footprint of the liveable space.
Across the compact terrace, the unity of finishes and the joinery’s clean profile add character and definition without overwhelming the spaces. Emphasis is placed on functionality, flow and a sophisticated look, providing a timeless home where a family can comfortably gather, relax and grow.
