Japanese Style Home Design
The homes’ social heart is anchored by a double-height off-form concrete wall, giving a grounding sense of raw tactility. A wide opening in the concrete reveals the kitchen where gesturally veined marble, fluted ceramic tiles, and cabinetry in charcoaled and walnut timber tones give a warming depth to the clean, minimalist lines. Flowing on from here, the living room ceiling is clad with acoustic timber slats creating an inviting, intimate feel in the spacious open area.
Adjacent to this main gathering hub, a meticulously landscaped internal courtyard promotes a connection to nature and adds to the calm interior atmosphere.
Each of the five bathrooms offers a distinct visual language, unified by a cohesive finishes palette featuring handcrafted Zellige tiles, delicate penny rounds, and natural stone with dramatic veining. The bedroom schemes benefit from the same individualised approach, ranging from inky, cocooning hues to palette combinations that balance the freshness of white with rich, organic tones.
Honouring the family’s Japanese heritage, Studio aem’s cohesive design thoughtfully weaves in traditional elements such as the shoji screens that provide privacy and diffuse the light with softness and serenity. Finely crafted floating shelves and bespoke joinery throughout serve as an architectural canvas for displaying the family's treasured collections of books, artworks, and artisan ceramics.
At the heart of Japanese design is a considered reverence for nature and natural textures, quietly expressed. In following these principles, Studio aem has crafted a unique family home that gifts its clients fortifying feelings of calm, introspection, and togetherness.
